Sedation Dentistry

Sedation

We know that some of our patients do not being in the dental chair for routine treatment. We do not want this fear or anxiety to delay the visits to our office. We offer several kinds of minimal sedation to alleviate any strain during the appointment. “Minimal Sedation is a minimally depressed level of consciousness, produced by a pharmacological method, that retains the patient's ability to independently and continuously maintain an airway and respond normally to tactile stimulation and verbal command. Although cognitive function and coordination may be modestly impaired, ventilatory and cardiovascular functions are unaffected.

Nitrous oxide gas, commonly known as “Laughing Gas” is an excellent method used in dentistry worldwide. Through disposable masks worn on the nose, Nitrous gas and oxygen is delivered to the patient throughout the treatment. Nitrous gas is safe and exits the system once the mask is removed.

For patients that are very apprehensive towards dental treatments, Benzodiazepines can be dozed accordingly to achieve minimal sedation for the patient. The patients will become calm, and comfortable enough to receive dental care. Patient’s consciousness will be depressed and will experience anterograde amnesia, meaning the patient will not remember events of the appointment later on.
